Vegan leather

Vegan leather

Leather- or the skin of a cow is a by- product, just like tallow or cow fat which is used in the production of makeup and toothpaste. leather goods are the driving forces to luxury fashion houses yet to the consumer they are merely an disposable fashion product. in flux of consumption of bags is happening due to a rising global middle class- which mean more cow slaughter. a study indicates that presently around 290m cows are killed per anum- forecasts tells us that the industry will need to slaughter 430m cows yearly by 2025.

A documentary about the tanneries in Bangladesh reported inhumane practices not just on animals (that are not vocal) but children, who are forced to perform hazardous tasks such as soaking hides in toxic chemicals and using knives to cut skins. luxury brands such as Stella McCartney is a game changer, from being a high- end brand where people are willing to pay thousands of dollars for a hand bag which is not made of leather. They are one of the few luxury brands that are now going vegan for the sake of the environment. Synthetic leather is really a game changer- which is poles apart from the plasticized synthetics used 10 years ago.
