Uber: history and success factors

Uber was founded in 2009 under the name UberCab by three businessmen (Garrett Camp, Travis Kalanick and Oscar Salazar). At first, the company was only present in the US (in major cities such as Chicago, New York, San Francisco) but because of the success, it began obvious for the brand that they needed to set up abroad.

By June 2014, the brand value is about 17 billion dollars. The service is great for customers; it is –most of the time- cheaper to take Uber than regular cabs. The cheap and fixed prices, the great service that the brand offers is scaring regular cabs. This leaded to a lot of controversy in some countries (in France, for example).

Because of the organization of the company, Uber is not paying any taxes in France. Because of all of these problems, Uber will never be able to set up in Bruxelles or Berlin because the government decided that it was an unfair service.
