Michelin Guide, normally refers to the Michelin Red Guide and published by the French company Michelin, is the oldest European hotel and restaurant reference guide. Rooting in Europe, Michelin Guide wants to expand its influence to Asia in recent years. But how influential the Michelin rating is in Asia?

To put it simply, the influence of Michelin Guide in Asia is not as powerful as in Europe. Before Michelin Guide entered Asia, Asian epicures find the local cuisine through a variety of ways and local resources, from word of mouth, magazines, as well as gourmet websites.

Taste is elusive and subjective. Of course no guide, awards or restaurant evaluation is perfect. Though Asian not accustomed to use Michelin Guide to find a good restaurant, the Michelin Guide can certainly upscale local restaurants to the world stage, so that connoisseurs around the world will recognize the top restaurants in Asia.
