Launched in 1958, the collective mark of the French Federation of lace and embroidery, “Dentelle de Calais” will now be called a label “Dentelle de Calais-Caudry” grouping Leavers lace makers of Calais and Caudry.
“This modernization of the label does not change its definition,” said Romain Lescroart, President of the Federation and the House Hallette Sophie.
The aim is to involve Caudry lace, as was already the case for Calais. The Caudry basin and now represent 75% of total production in the sector.
More broadly, France regroups to date 90% of the world fleet of Leavers machines, mainly in the region of Calais-Caudry. The half-dozen companies mainly officieraient calaisiennes for lingerie and corsetry, and 10% for ready-to-wear. The ten companies they work Caudry to 80% for ready-to-wear women’s luxury and haute couture.
