Robert Linxe, founder of La Maison du Chocolat, has dedicated his life to chocolate. Born in the French Basque region, he learned his trade of chocolatier in Bayonne and perfected it in Switzerland afterwards. He opened his first boutique in 1977 – a time when a shop dedicated to only chocolate was a bold and risky move. But he succeeded and the shop is open still today in the prestigious Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris.
Wine cellar chocolate
He selected a location for this boutique with a wine cellar, because it provided ideal conditions for preserving chocolates. He also had his laboratory in the this cellar for over ten years. His success and craftsmanship earned him the name “Sorcerer of Ganache” and La Maison du Chocolat has become one of the landmarks in Paris.
