How the Hip Hop culture influences Luxury

Hip Hop and its influence on the Luxury houses have a long history. It all started back in the 80’s with Dapper Dan. He was an important figure in Hip Hop’s sartorial past. He sold outfits made by him with fake logos from houses like Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Versace. These brands were not happy about it. Louis Vuitton and Gucci even sued Dapper Dan.

Nowadays it is a lot different. It seems like Luxury brands realise that the Hip Hop culture is of great importance for their brand. Gucci now even released a collaboration with Dapper Dan, showing his ‘80s and ‘90s designs. They are also supporting him so he can re-open his atelier. The collaboration contains clothing like tracksuits and bomber jackets.

Not only Gucci started to work with rappers from the Hip Hop culture. Dior chose A$AP Rocky as one of the new faces of their brand and Travis Scott is making designer music for the Saint Laurent.
