History of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche

Any shopaholic who respects herself, must know Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, a real temple of luxury and good taste on the most chic side of the Seine, between the 6th and 7th arrondissement. The lucky ones could even boast to shop there regularly!

A little background to know who is behind the first department store in the world…

Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche is the work of a visionary and precursor couple. Indeed, in 1852, Aristide Boucicaut and his wife Marguerite decide to transform a simple shop into a singular and unique “department store” with a wide choice and many services.

But its buyout in 1984 by the LVMH group makes it the most selective and high-end store in Paris combining tradition and modernity. In addition, in 1978 is created La Grande Épicerie de Paris, offering a selection of sophisticated and exceptional products and completes the world of Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, where the act of purchase is a pleasure and a special moment.
