Harry Winston is one of the most famous jewellers of the 20th century. Soon after opening of his first boutique in 1932 in New York, he became well known because of his collaborations with the Hollywood stars. This gave him the nickname “Jeweller to the Stars” and personalities such as Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe started to wear his creations. The latter one, mentioned him in her most popular song “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” in 1952. Interesting fact about this famous jeweller is that for security reasons Winston refused to appear in photographs and there is only one portrait of himself available to the public view.
Winston is also known for being one of the owners of The Hope Diamond — the biggest blue diamond in the world. He also slightly reshaped the 45-carat stone before donating it to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in New York when it has its place til today.
