Ethics issue in luxury

When it comes to “luxury”, the adjective that you may come up with would be elegant, sophistication, taste and style. Most of the time, luxury brings us pleasure, happiness and confidence. But, like many other industries, ethics issues unavoidably exist in the luxury world as well,iIncluding animal experiments, exploitation of labors and so on.

For example, in July 2015, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA) exposed that Hermès uses cruel way to slaughter crocodiles during their production of Hermes’s iconic bag Birkin which is named from Jane Birkin from 1984,it made Jane Birkin ask Hermès to remove her name from the Birkin Bag. Although Hermès made an agreement with Jane, guaranteeing to adjust and improve the procedure of the production eventually, but it still left a stain on the brand image.


Even though luxury brings pleasure, reputation or confidence, it’s still worth pondering that don’t let luxury to connect with cruel, inhumane and unethical!
