For several years, the Christian Dior house, founded in 1946, has a habit of making its shows at the Musée Rodin in Paris. But why this place? To understand, let’s return to one of Dior’s iconic fashion shows at the Rodin Museum, which blended haute couture and surrealism art. During the Haute Couture Fashion Week, Christian Dior house unveiled on January 2018 at the Rodin Museum its spring-summer 2018 collection. The Dior fashion show turned the Rodin museum into a gigantic chessboard with sculptures of surreal dimensions. Ears, eyes, hands, and human torsos are suspended above the guests and the podium, itself covered with a black and white checkerboard, reminiscent of the exterior of the building where the presentation was held. A quirky atmosphere, timeless, mixes perfectly with the surreal atmosphere desired by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the artistic director of Christian Dior since July 2016. For the stamples, there is a cage that encloses the body, a game of transparency between black and white, hypnotic stripes on a dress, a fishnet stocking covered a sandal or gloves clasp an ankle, the folds of a dress that open like the pages of a book, carved masks that highlight oversized eyes, abstract patterns, adorn ball gowns and evoke surrealist works. As a necklace, many quotations from André Breton were tattooed on the models such as the famous one « The imaginary is what tends to become real. » In the atmosphere of the show, Dior asserts an invitation to dream. Therefore It seems obvious that Dior uses the Rodin Museum for its shows, just like the museum, Dior’s samples are full of artistic inspiration, contemporary pieces and real works of art. It is in this iconic place that the Dior house highlights its excellence, creativity and passion for art.
