Sustainability might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about luxury brands. Here are two brands that have taken sustainability seriously and have taken measurements to decrease their impact on the environment.
Valentino has announced that by 2020 they want to eliminate all hazardous chemicals, which are used throughout the entire production cycle. In 2012, Viola Davis, appeared in a custom made dress made out of recycled bottles on the red carpet at the BAFTA awards.
The creations from Stella McCartney are known for being free of animal-derived products, but that is not the only thing she does for being low-impact on the environment. The materials used for the eye-wear collections consist of caster-oil seeds and citric acid and the soles of the shoes for her autumn 2010 collection were made from bioplastic called APINAT. In 2013 she launched a new kind of faux leather that consisted for 50% out of vegetable oil.
