Chanel n°5 : A story of ambassadors

Since it launch almost 90 years ago, Chanel Nº5 is today the most famous and the world’s best selling perfume. The advertising campaigns of Chanel have become almost as famous as the fragrance itself and every launching is an event.


Focus on the four most famous advertising campaigns :


Nicole Kidman’s collaboration with director Baz Luhrmann made the perfume well known worldwide thanks to the reference to the Moulin Rouge. The four-minute film was entitled No 5: The Film and it was the world’s most expensive commercial (£18 million).


22 The second is a mini film with french actress Audrey Tautou in the Orient Express filmed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet during two minutes. No words are exchanged during the film: it is the fragrance that made the connection.


Then, Chanel choose to take archive recording from 1960 for its advertising. We can hears Marilyn Monroe who says: You know, they ask me questions. Just an example: ‘What do you wear to bed ? A pajama top? A nightgown?’ So I said, ‘Chanel No. 5,’ because it’s the truth…


More recently, Chanel launched a new film with Gisele Bundchen. The perfume’s campaign entitled “The One That I Want” about a woman who struggles with having it all — love, family and her career.


The link between all the advertising ? Chanel n°5 is the fragrance of a very strong woman, very confident who lives through the time.
