Blancpain – The World’s Oldest Watchmaking Brand

Watchmaking as a business activity appeared in 18th century in Switzerland, known as the world’s center of Haute Horlogerie.

In 1735 Jehan-Jacques Blancpain created and registered a new establishment – the company of the Blancpain brand, setting up his first watchmaking workshop. The Blancpain family is also known as the creators of a major innovation into the watchmaking world as well as introducers of modernized watch production methods such as serial production.

Today owned by Swatch Group, Blancpain has been successful during three centuries by selling the first automatic wristwatch in cooperation with John Harwood and launching the world’s first ladies’ automatic watch, thus combining tradition and innovation in its work.
